Dr. Hugo Bütler

Hugo Bütler was born in 1944 in Hünenberg (Kanton Zug, Switzerland) He studied History, Philosophy, Sovietology and German Philology in Zurich, Fribourg and Florence and completed his PhD in Italian History.
After gaining experiences in local journalism and with a news agency, he joined the editorial staff of the domestic department of Neue Zürcher Zeitung in 1968. Main points of his work were Swiss home affairs and foreign policy issues and he was responsible for the special page "Political Literature" where he dealt with East-West questions, particularly with the CSCE. From January 1985 to March 2006 Hugo Bütler was editor-in-chief and head of the management team of Neue Zürcher Zeitung and from April 2006 head of the managing board of the NZZ Group. Since April 2007 Hugo Bütler is retired.
