The first session focuses on problem analysis: What are the advantages and opportunities, but also the risks and side effects of big data? What effects do surveillance measures have on civil rights and liberties, prosperity and innovation in the networked knowledge societies? What role do the major Internet companies play, what responsibility do they have? Are large-scale surveillance and control of the Net imminent or is ‘another’ Internet conceivable?

FROM TALK TO ACTION: MEASURES TO RECONCILE SECURITY CONCERNS AND PRESS FREEDOM

The second session is devoted to problem solving: Is it possible to achieve a balance between security, data protection and press freedom in a digital world? How can the constitutional state confront the practices of surveillance and the pace of algorithm-driven acceleration? What measures should editorial teams and companies take to protect their employees? How can the major Internet companies win back declining confidence?
