Stefan Candea

Stefan Candea, Romania, is an investigative journalist and co-founder of the Romanian Centre for Investigative Journalism (CRJI), a nonprofit registered in Bucharest, Romania. His cross-border investigative stories on organized crime won several international awards. Since early 2016, Stefan is the co-founder and coordinator of European Investigative Collaborators, www.eic.network. He will be working at EIJC on his PhD research with the University of Westminster, analyzing the structures of cross-border investigative networks (“Cross-border Networks for Investigative Journalism and their Relevance for Press Freedom in Europe“). During the recent years, Stefan started Sponge, an open and collaborative media innovation lab for Eastern Europe. The lab created an in-depth magazine, The Black Sea, a lifeboat for journalism in the region. He is the initiator of Investigative SmartGrid, a new, open business model for a modular journalistic enterprise that was shortlisted for the European Press Prize 2013, the Innovation Award.
A member of the International Consortium for Investigative Journalism, he teaches investigative journalism at Bucharest University and was the 2011 Carroll Binder Nieman Fellow at Harvard University.


 
Daniel Drepper
Co-Founder and Senior Reporter, Correct!v, Germany


Daniel is a co-founder and senior reporter at correctiv.org, Germany's first non-profit investigative newsroom. He is working on investigations related to sports, health, justice and freedom of information. Daniel is also involved in further developing CORRECT!V and organizes the work of other reporters. He teaches how to be an investigative journalist and how to use freedom of information laws. From August 2013 to May 2014 Daniel was a fellow at the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism and a scholar at the Brown Institute for Media Innovation. Both are part of Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. Before going to New York Daniel worked as a reporter for the investigative unit of the biggest regional paper in Germany, Funke Media Group. Daniel worked there from 2010 to 2013. Daniel has been a freelancer since 2001 and did multimedia reporting for national German media since 2008. Daniel has a diploma in journalism and sports from the University in Dortmund.

Paul Radu
OCCRP Organised Crime Corruption Reporting Project



Paul Radu is the executive director of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project www.reportingproject.net and a co-creator of the Investigative Dashboard concept www.investigativedashboard.org, of Visual investigative Scenarios visualization software vis.occrp.org and of RISE Project www.riseproject.ro a new platform for investigative reporters and hackers in Romania . He has held a number of fellowships, including the Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship in 2001, the Milena Jesenska Press Fellowship in 2002, the Rosalyn Carter Fellowship for Mental Health Journalism in 2007,  the 2008 Knight International Journalism fellowship with the International Center for Journalists as well as a 2009-2010 Stanford Knight Journalism Fellowship. He is the recipient of numerous awards including in 2004, the Knight International Journalism Award and the Investigative Reporters and Editors Award, in 2007, the Global Shining Light Award, the Tom Renner Investigative Reporters and Editors Award, the 2011 the Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding International Investigative Reporting and the 2015 European Press Prize.


 
Albrecht Ude

Albrecht Ude is working as a freelance journalists, researcher and research – trainer with a focus on structured online research, fact checking and communication security. He publishes in DIE ZEIT, ZEIT online, c't, golem.de, Nitro, journalist, Message u.a. and teaches at universities, journalists schools, publishing houses and TV stations. Albrecht Ude is directing editor of the newsletter of Netzwerk Recherche. He focusses on internet censorship (e.g China), how to act against it and how to protect user and sources. His main aspects are research, IT & communication security, civil rights in times of the erosion of the rule of law, democracy and an open free society under the threat of increasing surveillance. Additionally he is blogging at recherche-info.de and calls out for more variety in the field of internet-research. Ude translates and commissions the german Text- E-Mail Newsletter Standard (TEN Standard). He also filed a suit against the first so-called data-preservation law and is one of eight agencies to expedited applications to the Federal Constitutional Court regarding the data-preservation law. He also is currently filing a suit against the second version of the bespoken law.


 
Susanne Dickel
360° VJ / Ze.tt

Susanne Dickel  is one of the most experienced 360° journalists in Germany. She created about 40 non fiction 360° videos in 4K quality for Axel Springer’s media brand “Die Welt”. Since June 2016, she works for Zett, a German online media for young people from the big news publisher Zeit Verlag. Her task is to build up the production of 360° content within the team. Susanne loves to try new techniques for Storytelling. She showed that you can cover news events with a 360° camera as well, e. g. the visit of Barack Obama in Hannover, the minute of silence after the Brussel’s Attacks or demonstrations during the G7 summit in Germany. After a few months, Susanne Dickel started to tell bigger stories in 360° videos and travelled to Serbia, Croatia, Greece and France to cover the situation of the refugees. For one of those videos, she received a nomination for the German Web Video Awards which is the most important prize in the field of German online video. Susanne Dickel was awarded by German „Medium Magazin“ as „Top 30 under 30“ in 2015 – a list of young influencers – because of her work with 360° Video.
 


 
Emin Mili
Editor-in-Chief Meydan TV


Emin Milli is a managing director of Meydan TV since 2013. Meydan TV is independent online news media platform for Azerbaijan and media hub for the region. Milli was imprisoned in 2009 for two and a half years for his critical views about the government of Azerbaijan. He was conditionally released in November 2010, after serving 16 months of his sentence. From 2002-2004, Milli was director of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. Prior to that, he was a coordinator for the International Republican Institute in Azerbaijan. He has a master degree in State, Society and Development from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). 


 
Dr. Hendrik Schott
Association of European Journalists (VEJ)

 

Dr. Hendrik Schott has been President of the German section of the Association of European Journalists (VEJ) since 2010. After completing grammar school and military service he studied at universities in Germany, the Netherlands and South Africa. Hendrik Schott got a dual degree in business economics and Dutch/Afrikaans philology. He started his professional career as an academic assistant/lecturer at the University of Cologne and as a freelancer for the Federal Foreign Office in Bonn. After emigrating to South Africa, he worked in Cape Town as a journalist for South Africa’s leading media group Naspers Limited. During this time, he specialised in foreign and European affairs. Subsequently, he worked as a Germany and EU correspondent in Bonn, Berlin and Brussels, where he spearheaded coverage of German and EU politics.
