Limbourg“The development in more and more countries in the world shows that freedom of press and opinion are mandatory for democracies. The media cooperation between Deutsche Welle and M100 Sanssouci Colloquium helps channeling the journalistic energy on this important European platform for the defence of those values.”

Peter Limbourg,  Director, Deutsche Welle, Cologne/Berlin

Guerot"M100 is outstanding for its ‘large turnout of journalists from really every European country and even countries outside of the European Union, many from the southern European area who are not yet members of the European Union, from Ukraine, and this is truly one of M100’s strong points."

Prof. Dr. Ulrike Guérot, Founder and Director, European Democracy Lab, Germany

JakobsPotsdam, 30 June, 2017. “The edict of Potsdam was initiated 332 years ago. For ages, the State Capital therefore stands for tolerance, freedom and democracy. Hence, this year’s guideline of the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium matches perfectly. Moreover, Potsdam is a very important media location outside the gates of Berlin. Since 2005 important sociopolitical questions in the context of Europe and the role of the media have been discussed and negotiated at M100. It is a unique conference that Potsdam can be very proud of.”

Jann Jakobs, Lord Mayour of the State Capital Potsdam

About 70 international chief editors, historians and politicians will gather at the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium in Potsdam to discuss on the present and future of the European Union as well as the role of the media on 14 September 2017.

Potsdam, 29 June, 2017. “The most voters are more like sports fans waving their team banners”, the American Professor for Economy, Ethics and Politics Jason Brennan states. “Asking for more participation or input from voters is like asking drunk people to drive.” Brennan is teaching at the Georgetown University in the US and has currently provoked a controversial discussion on his recently published book. In “Against Democracy”, he demands an epistocracy in which only politically interested and educated people are allowed to vote.
Brennan is one of about 70 high-ranking participants from 21 countries, illustrating the current political situation in Europe at the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium , titled “Democracy or Despotism? The Renaissance of Dark Powers”, in the Sanssouci Orangery on 14 September 2017. The editors-in-chief, publicists, historians and representatives of political and social institutions will discuss political visions and concrete strategies in an international order under new as well as the crisis of the democracy and the media in light of rapidly changing operating conditions.
